The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
With the frankly frightening rise of antisemitism across the globe, I find myself drawn to old footage of the atrocities committed against my Jewish brethren. I've encountered blatant antisemitism only twice in my life, the first time at nine years old. My appointed gym partner for the day (ugh, those gym teachers) asked me if I was a Jew. Growing up in a predominately Jewish neighborhood, I found the question to be innocuous and replied in the affirmative. The little pig tailed girl then commenced to spit and inform me of her hatred of me. I saved my tears for home and mom diligently notified the school's principal who called the pig tailed girl into her office with myself and mom there. She was lectured as to her wrong doing. As I grew, I realized that this child was not at fault. Her indoctrination began at home, and I pictured her dad as Archie Bunker, chilling in an overstuffed chair, beer in hand. We are not born to hate, it is an acquired disease.
Though the indoctrinated would have you believe otherwise, the Jewish people are a peaceful lot, would rather give than take, and value education and love of family over disdain towards others. In accordance with the terrorist-friendly lingo of the O'gasmic administration, the uniquely unqualified Janet Napolitano, newly appointed head of Homeland Security, has eliminated such unnecessary jargon such as terrorism, threat, war on terror, and all other verbiage previously used to describe the actionable intelligence which denotes the ongoing reality of globad jihad plaguing our shores. Long gone are the days in the aftermath of 9/11 whereby color coded status reports were utilized to report to the nation any and all possibilities of imminent concern, and long gone is Tom Ridge, former chief and architect of the Dept. of Homeland Security. Under the diligence of former Pres. George W. Bush ( like him or not), Michael Chertoff served in the same capacity and continued the path of prioritizing our nations safety.
With the advent of the emporer's plain speak, it is considered impolite policy to call a spade a spade, or a threat, a threat. Therefore, the aforementioned groups who continue to plan, mobilize, train, and wreak havoc on the world, shall heretofore
be known as "comrades who praise Allah."
Due to the loyalty (cronyism) of O'gasmic to his staunchest supporters, Janet Napolitano, former Governor of Arizona, is leading this most important department in an effort to root out naughty intentioned people before they get time-outs. Her ineffective record in her home state is on the record:
"Illegal Immigration critics are complaining that Arizona's former governor, now Secretary of Homeland Security, played politics when she announced a state of emergency during the Bush Administration in response to illegal aliens and then she vetoed a new bill that would aid law enforcement in curtailing rampant illegal immigration.
Then Gov. Janet Napolitano vetoed a bill that would have made the presence of illegal immigrants in Arizona a felony offense. She claims she was responding to the wishes of local police chiefs and sheriffs who want immigration arrests to remain the responsibility of the federal government.
The new bill would have expanded the state's trespassing law to let local authorities arrest illegal immigrants anywhere in Arizona, one of the country's busiest illegal entry point. The legislation passed through the state legislature but was summarily blocked by the Democrat governor.
In a letter to lawmakers, Napolitano said she opposed automatically turning all immigrants who sneaked into the state into criminals and that the bill provided no funding for the new duties.
But critics say she was being disingenuous with her statements. One police commander claims she failed to mention that entering the US illegally is already a crime, albeit a misdemeanor. In addition, reentry into the US once an alien is deported is already a felony in the US.
Besides illegal aliens, the bill would have put more teeth into Arizona law to deal with human smugglers and de facto slave-traders.
"It is unfortunate that the Legislature has once again ignored the officials who are most directly affected by illegal immigration and instead has passed yet another bill that will have no effect on the problem but that will impose an unfunded burden on law enforcement," Napolitano wrote in a press release.
However, when she declared a state of emergency in Arizona last year, following the lead of another Democrat governor -- Bill Richardson of New Mexico -- Gov. Napolitano spent millions on her deployment of National Guard troops on the Mexican border. Political analysts believe she declared the emergency in order to criticize the Bush Administration as did Gov. Richardsom."

Coupled with her announcement that it will be years before we are able to employ a fail safe system to check all ports for incoming nukes or biological weapons though the order was issued to do so in 2007, I know I can sleep soundly. Truth: We'll give you a whopping $2500.00 (though your school costs $30-$50k) and only if ya hit the streets, organize with ACORN, join the military (in which case you won't need the money), and with the vast amount of employment opportunities, you oughta get a job in no time.
Don't you forget. The U.S.A. has its foundation on moral ground ( that's why I can't produce a birth certificate to show I was born here, but hey, I'm the king). No torture, No Gitmo. We're gonna be on the honor system! Now you listen up, terrorists, we're gonna behave from now on. None of this war on terror crap. So you think we're infidels that have to be wiped out. Nothing a good old fashioned talking to won't cure.

Interested non-governmental organizations to be represented by observers, in accordance with UN Economic and Social Council resolution 1996/31 were also invited to attend as observers.
A regional conference in Tehran, intended to produce a composite Declaration against Racism and a Plan of Action, preceded the conference. Israel, along with Jewish NGOs, were excluded and, in their absence, Israel was accused of committing holocausts and being anti-Semitic. There was no public condemnation of the exclusion of Israel or the Jewish groups by any of the international NGOs. During the World Conference, large numbers of NGOs organized a parallel NGO Forum (sometimes confused with the Conference) that, in turn, succeeded in overshadowing the formal proceedings. This was due to the large amount of media attention the NGOs were able to generate. The NGO Forum produced what is known as "The NGO Declaration," which, while not an official conference document, assumed a high international profile and was signed by groups such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch.
The NGO declaration at the Durban conference, written in highly politicized language, reflected a concerted effort to undermine Israel. Article 164 states targeted victims of Israel's brand of apartheid and ethnic cleansing methods have been in particular children, women and refugees. Article 425 announces a policy of complete and total isolation of Israel as an apartheid state...the imposition of mandatory and comprehensive sanctions and embargoes, the full cessation of all links (diplomatic, economic, social, aid, military cooperation and training) between all states and Israel. Furthermore, Article 426 talks of condemnation of those states who are supporting, aiding and abetting the Israeli apartheid state and its perpetration of racist crimes against humanity including ethnic cleansing, acts of genocide.
The constant comparisons with South Africa and apartheid are fundamentally flawed. Israel grants full legal and civic equality to its Arab minority. The status of the Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip is subject to a final settlement and the issue of a Palestinian state is a matter of intense diplomatic energy and sensitive negotiation. Moreover, the Israeli army has a clear policy of avoiding civilian casualties. A fact of the war on terror is the concentration of suicide bomb-making factories in densely-populated areas. Moreover, the Palestinians have also shown a willingness to put small children directly in the line of fire. These reasons help explain the tragic number of Palestinian children and women killed. In cases where Israeli soldiers have shown excesses, they have stood trial and were removed from their positions. The NGO Forum omitted to mention any of these facts, and this pattern is seen in the NGO community repeatedly.
Fast forward eight years later to O'gasmic times, and we have a reconvening of this forum to be named, Durban II, where once again, nations come together to discuss racism and the battle to conquer this evil. Witness the following:
The Obama administration's decision to join the planning of the U.N.'s Durban II "anti-racism" conference has just taken a new twist: cover-up. On Friday, State Department officials and a member of the American Durban II delegation claimed the United States had worked actively to oppose efforts to brand Israel as racist in the committee drafting a Durban II declaration. The trouble is that they didn't.
The Feb. 20 State Department press release says the U.S. delegation in Geneva "outline[d] our concerns with the current outcome document" and in particular "our strong reservations about the direction of the conference, as the draft document singles out Israel for criticism." One member of the delegation told The Washington Post: "The administration is pushing back against efforts to brand Israel as racist in this conference." In fact, tucked away in a Geneva hall with few observers, the U.S. had done just the opposite. The U.S. delegates had made no objection to a new proposal to nail Israel in an anti-racism manifesto that makes no other country-specific claims.
This watchdog on the UN alert,if you will, has been following O's decision to avoid the ever growing cancer of antisemitism that has always been present but has skyrocketed into brazen, open forums since Hamas provoked Israel one too many times.
Furthermore, "on Tuesday, the Palestinian delegation proposed inserting a new paragraph under the heading "Identification of further concrete measures and initiatives ... for combating and eliminating all manifestations of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance..." with the subtitle "General provisions on victims ... of discrimination." The paragraph includes: "Calls for ... the international protection of the Palestinian people throughout the occupied Palestinian territory." In other words, it claims that the Palestinian people are victims of Israeli racism and demands that all U.N. states provide protection from the affronts of the racist Jewish state."
It is often said that silence is golden, and apparently the Hussein administration is basking in the glow of bullion, for they have remained mum to the above assertions. The unfolding of this little known story continues with:
"Furthermore, the new Palestinian provision "Calls for ... implementation of international legal obligations, including the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice on the wall..." This is a dramatic attempt to change an "advisory opinion" into a "legal obligation"--a status which attaches to no advisory opinion. The ICJ decision, which advises that the Israeli security fence is illegal, has always been rejected by the United States--hitherto. And with good reason. The Egyptian judge had voiced his opinion on the result before the case was even heard, in his capacity as a leading Egyptian diplomat. The terms of reference from the General Assembly who asked for the decision, and the documents they laid before the Court, predetermined the outcome. And as the strong dissent by the American judge and Holocaust survivor Tom Buergenthal pointed out, the Court came to its preposterous conclusion that "the right of legitimate or inherent self-defense is not applicable in the present case" without considering "the deadly terrorist attacks to which Israel is being subjected."
But when the Palestinian delegation laid their new proposal before the drafting committee, what did Obama's team do? Nothing, absolutely nothing. They made no objection at all." You can read the rest here.
This conference will take place in April in Geneva, Switzerland, and once again we see the uprising of anti-Jewish sentiment mushrooming since our muslim savior, allah loving, Resident Select has been on the scene. I've lost count of his extensions of love to the arab world since taking up space in the West Wing. AIPAC, frankly, you deserve this. As do seventy six percent of the Jewish population of the U.S. who voted for him because Jews are cool and our guilt is what defines us most especially when we have nothing to feel guilty about.

A Woman of Valor
As most know, this week we witnessed another horrific plane crash, this time in Buffalo, NY killing all on board as well as one unwitting soul in his home. Not a 747, but one of those commuter jets, the kind they'd have to drag me on after administering near lethal doses of valium. I'm just a mortal, and we all have our own tales of misfortune and sadness to speak of. Learning of the stories behind the passengers on that fateful trip has marred my thought process and rendered me emotionally incapacitated. Two former college students returning to Buffalo, a pilot who was on board just to "hitch a ride", the take-over-mom's-role sister with ten siblings, a very talented and well renowned musician's band members, and the list goes on. For the press, one name stood out, for she had a voice that will live on way past the flesh of her body inhabits the earth. For me, that same person has special significance.
I am speaking of Beverly Eckert, a 9/11 widow who lost her high school sweetheart who later became her husband, on that day which still haunts my being. Beverly had many friends to share her grief with, those who lost friends and family members. For most, the years have taken their toll, the monetary compensation has been doled out, and the pain remains as the years go on. There are those that are followers and those that are leaders. I think by now, you know which category Beverly belonged to.
The loss of her husband ripped her world apart. She had never bore children and so her raison d'etre might have waned. The kind of personal devastation one feels over losing a loved one in the most despicable way imaginable would lead most to a daily reclining position but not Beverly.
Beverly refused to accept the 1.8 million dollars to which she was entitled upon her husband's murder. Money does not heal wounds, and she was determined to take a front seat as an advocate for getting to the truth of 9/11.
"The victims fund was not created in a spirit of compassion. Rather, it was a tacit acknowledgment by Congress that it tampered with our civil justice system in an unprecedented way. Lawmakers capped the liability of the airlines at the behest of lobbyists who descended on Washington while the Sept. 11 fires still smoldered."
Beverly wanted to hold Congress, lobbyists, and the various vermin that inhabit our government accountable, and her voice rose above her gut wrenching sadness as a beacon of hope for the victims and their families. Here is a synopsis of her mission.
Beverly, like most who have lost loved ones, could not live with the idea that her husband had perished in vain. She implored Congress to do a better job protecting Americans from terrorism, part of a crew of Sept. 11 widows, mothers, and children who became amateur lobbyists, spending months in Congress and ultimately forcing lawmakers in 2004 to pass sweeping reforms of U.S. intelligence. As co-chair of the 9/11 Family Steering Committee, she pressed for the 9/11 Commission that investigated the attacks and prompted the ultimate reforms.
"I did all of this for Sean's memory, I did it for him," she had said. "There is a euphoria in knowing that we reached the top of the hill. ... I just wanted Sean to come home from work. Maybe now, someone else's Sean will get to come home."
Beverly was returning to her own hometown of Buffalo, NY on her way to celebrate her late husband's 58th birthday with family, when she too, suffered a tragic fate. She also had planned to take part in presentation of a scholarship award at Canisius High School that she established in honor of her late husband.
The school that my son attended found itself in the position of counting amongst its students, new orphans. Beverly met with the Resident Select last week to discuss her concerns and to receive assurances as to his stance regarding Gitmo and national security. There is no doubt she received his usual platitudes, but I pray that somehow she will linger in his mind when he contemplates taking his hand off the trigger. He would need a conscience for that, and I'm not very confident in that thought.
These are the times when I question why G-d takes good people from us in an untimely and devastating fashion. I must believe that we are here for a reason, if only to suffer so that succeeding generations never have to.
May you rest in peace Beverly, with your Sean.
You will be missed.

Hamas Buys Homes On Long Island...Story At ?
I've been seething over the following article for a couple of days. Delusion be thy name, I thought maybe, just perchance, some major media outlet that warrants a Nielsen rating would pick this story up. If you've seen it other than here, please let me know.
I told a close family member that if he wanted to take a semester to study abroad, he could do so, as long as it was in New Zealand. The Islamic Jihad boyz don't watch Flight of the Conchords, so I figured it might be safe. Of course, we're not safe in the good ol' United States of Asswipes ( this refers to the hopiates, only), and we became more unsafe on January 27th. I haven't the intestinal fortitude to make a pretty, perfectly linked post. The content of this is staggering, so here goes, from The New Media Journal.

By executive order, President Barack Obama has ordered the expenditure of $20.3 million in migration assistance to the Palestinian refugees and conflict victims in Gaza.
The "presidential determination" which allows hundreds of thousands of Palestinians with ties to Hamas to resettle in the United States was signed on January 27 and appeared in the Federal Register on February 4.
President Obama's decision, according to the Register, was necessitated by "the urgent refugee and migration needs" of the "victims."
Few on Capitol Hill took note that the order provides a free ticket replete with housing and food allowances to individuals who have displayed their overwhelming support of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in the parliamentary election of January 2006.
The charter for Hamas calls for the replacement of the nation of Israel with a Palestinian Islamic state.
Since its formation in 1994, Hamas has been responsible for hundreds of terrorist attacks, including the 2002 Passover suicide bombing. The leaders of the movement signed the World Islamic Statement of 1998 – a document, penned by Osama bin Laden, which declared war on America and Israel.
President Obama's executive order is expected to bring hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, many with ties to radical Islam, to our shores, furthering a process that was inaugurated in 1995 by Senator Ted Kennedy and the Cedar-Hart bill.
The Open Gate
In 1965, Allah in His mercy raised up Senators Ted Kennedy and Edward Celler to initiate changes in the immigration law that made it possible for millions of Muslims to make their way to the New World – as the Christian Europeans had done in the early years of the 20th Century. The Cedar-Hart bill, which was signed into law by President Lyndon Johnson on October 3, 1965, abolished the national-origin quotas that had been in effect since 1924. In the spirit of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, it barred discrimination on the basis of race, creed, religion, or national origin. America, by fiat of liberal secular humanists, was to be become a multicultural country – a country severed from its Judeo-Christian roots.
Remaining cognizant of the common roots as the American people, our legislative had enacted stringent laws pertaining to immigration and naturalization. The Naturalization Act of 1790 stipulated that "any alien, being a free white person, may be admitted to become a citizen of the United States" The Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 prohibited Chinese families from immigrating to the United States. The Immigration Act of 1907 reorganized the states bordering Mexico (Arizona, New Mexico and a large part of Texas) into Mexican Border District to stem the flow of immigrants into the US.
It is hard to conceive of an act of Congress that could be more culturally biased than the Immigration Act of 1954 and yet it received nearly unchallenged bipartisan support. Yet The New York Times editorialized: "The country has a right to say who shall and who shall not come in...The basis of restriction must be chosen with a view not to the interest of any group or groups in this country...but rather with a view to the country's best interests as a whole."
In 1952, The McCarran Walter Immigration Act affirmed the national-origins quota system of 1924 and limited total annual immigration to one-sixth of one percent of the population of the continental United States in 1920, or 175,455. The act exempted spouses and children of US citizens and people born in the Western Hemisphere from the quota.
The Kennedy Promise
But, in 1965, Kennedy and company viewed such legislation as pig-headed and prejudicial. Few elected officials, Senator Sam Ervin of North Carolina – being one of the exceptions, dared to disagree with them. Championing the Celler-Hart bill, which called for the abolished all quotas, Kennedy, being far from prescient, said: "Contrary to the charges in some quarters, S500 will not inundate America with immigrants from any other country or area, or the most populated and economically deprived nations of Africa and Asia...The charges I have mentioned are highly emotional, irrational, and with little foundation in fact. They are out of line with the obligation of responsible citizenship. They breed hate of our heritage."
Forty years after Senator Kennedy made this pledge, Dean Steven Gillon of the Honors College at Oklahoma University assessed the results of the 1965 Immigration Act by noting:
"The US added at least 40 million immigrants after 1965. Before 1965, 95 percent of the new immigrants had come from Europe. After 1965, 95 percent came from the Third World. The 1965 act has transformed American society and had consequences exactly the opposite of what we were promised."
In his speech before Congress, Senator Kennedy had said; "Our cities will not be flooded with a million immigrants annually." The level of immigration, he swore, would remain substantially same as it was in 1965 – 156,700. This, too, proved to be woefully incorrect. The present immigrant rate exceeds 1.5 million annually. Noting this, Pat Buchanan writes:
The 1965 Cedar-Hart bill was the greatest bait-and-switch in history. Americans were promised one result, and got the opposite result that they had been promised would never happen. They were misled. They were deceived. They were swindled. They were told immigration levels would remain roughly the same and the ethnic composition of their country would not change. What they got was a Third World invasion that is converting America into another country.
From 1965 to the present, more than half of all the immigrants to America from the Middle East and Asia have been Muslim with radical ideologies.
Malcolm is surely smiling in his grave, for he had written:
As the Christian Crusade once went East, now the Islamic Crusade is going West. With the East – Asia – closed to Christianity, with Africa rapidly becoming converted to Islam, with Europe rapidly becoming un-Christian, generally today it is accepted that the 'Christian' civilization of America – which is propping up the white race around the world – is Christianity's remaining strongest bastion.
Well, if this is so – if the so called 'Christianity' now being practiced in America displays the best that the world Christianity has to offer – no one in his right mind should need any much greater proof that very close at hand is the end of Christianity.

In his speech before Congress, Senator Kennedy had said; "Our cities will not be flooded with a million immigrants annually." The level of immigration, he swore, would remain substantially same as it was in 1965 – 156,700. This, too, proved to be woefully incorrect. The present immigrant rate exceeds 1.5 million annually. Noting this, Pat Buchanan writes:

You Gotta Have Hope, Miles and Miles and Miles of Hope(iates)
The mortal (sorry, folks, he doesn't walk on the Potomac River) who has received more accolades and adoration than Mickey Rourke for becoming human, ran his campaign with the rhetoric of peace, love, and all things groovy. He was going to get in that big house ( prison?) and bring a new kind of ethics to the power hungry dragon sphere. Things are gonna change, "yes we can", and scratch your face with your third finger to anyone who stands in your way. Come on folks, you gotta have HOPE! Bush Derangement Syndrome reached a cruising altitude of 30,000 feet once the interloper got his hands in the kitty of the media.
I don't know about you, but something smells rotten in the state of, um, no taxation without representation. Suddenly, ProzacPelosi and HalfwitReid wrote a ginormous but "unstimulating" package that if not passed through the House and Senate, would result in a cataclysmic appearance of Lucifer, resulting in the destruction of all man/womankind.
Hey, what happened to hope? Oshyt decided to go on a limited ticket prostitution tour, arrogant and condescending as always, crying, "CATASTROPHE"... now is this the bambi that we knew? Catastrophe, mind you. So much for the president who in his inaugural address two weeks earlier declared "we have chosen hope over fear." Until, that is, you need fear to pass a bill.
And so much for the promise to banish the money changers and influence peddlers from the temple. An ostentatious executive order banning lobbyists was immediately followed by the nomination of at least a dozen current or former lobbyists to high position. Followed by a Treasury secretary who allegedly couldn't understand the payroll tax provisions in his 1040. Followed by Tom Daschle, who had to fall on his sword according to the new Washington rule that no Cabinet can have more than one tax delinquent.
The Daschle affair was more serious because his offense involved more than taxes. As Michael Kinsley once observed, in Washington the real scandal isn't what's illegal, but what's legal. Not paying taxes is one thing. But what made this case intolerable was the perfectly legal dealings that amassed Daschle $5.2 million in just two years.
He'd been getting $1 million per year from a law firm. But he's not a lawyer, nor a registered lobbyist. You don't get paid this kind of money to instruct partners on the Senate markup process. You get it for picking up the phone and peddling influence.
At least Tim Geithner, the tax-challenged Treasury secretary, had been working for years as a humble international civil servant earning non-stratospheric wages. Daschle, who had made another cool million a year (plus chauffeur and Caddy) for unspecified services to a pal's private equity firm, represented everything Obama said he'd come to Washington to upend.
And yet more damaging to Obama's image than all the hypocrisies in the appointment process is his signature bill: the stimulus package. He inexplicably delegated the writing to Nancy Pelosi and the barons of the House. The product, which inevitably carries Obama's name, was not just bad, not just flawed, but a legislative abomination.
It's not just pages and pages of special-interest tax breaks, giveaways and protections, one of which would set off a ruinous Smoot-Hawley trade war. It's not just the waste, such as the $88.6 million for new construction for Milwaukee Public Schools, which, reports the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, have shrinking enrollment, 15 vacant schools and, quite logically, no plans for new construction.
It's the essential fraud of rushing through a bill in which the normal rules (committee hearings, finding revenue to pay for the programs) are suspended on the grounds that a national emergency requires an immediate job-creating stimulus -- and then throwing into it hundreds of billions that have nothing to do with stimulus, that Congress's own budget office says won't be spent until 2011 and beyond, and that are little more than the back-scratching, special-interest, lobby-driven parochialism that Obama came to Washington to abolish. He said.
Not just to abolish but to create something new -- a new politics where the moneyed pork-barreling and corrupt logrolling of the past would give way to a bottom-up, grass-roots participatory democracy. That is what made Obama so dazzling and new. Turns out the "fierce urgency of now" includes $150 million for livestock (and honeybee and farm-raised fish) insurance.
The Age of Obama begins with perhaps the greatest frenzy of old-politics influence peddling ever seen in Washington. By the time the stimulus bill reached the Senate, reports the Wall Street Journal, pharmaceutical and high-tech companies were lobbying furiously for a new plan to repatriate overseas profits that would yield major tax savings. California wine growers and Florida citrus producers were fighting to change a single phrase in one provision. Substituting "planted" for "ready to market" would mean a windfall garnered from a new "bonus depreciation" incentive.
After Obama's miraculous 2008 presidential campaign, it was clear that at some point the magical mystery tour would have to end. The nation would rub its eyes and begin to emerge from its reverie. The hallucinatory Obama would give way to the mere mortal. The great ethical transformations promised would be seen as a fairy tale that all presidents tell -- and that this president told better than anyone.
I thought the awakening would take six months. It took two and a half weeks.
Whenever I want to hear the word hope, I just sing to myself, and feel free to join me. Hit it, Frank!

Update on Gitmo Playground Closures
As you all know, I have been ranting over the closing of Guantanamo Bay (see my friend's post below and prior ramblings).
Not to trump the atrocity of 9/11, O'shyt has enabled his cronies to commit the latest act of insanity in what appears to be a long trip to our collective hell. The mastermind ( that word really annoys me) of the U.S.S. Cole bombing which resulted in the deaths of seventeen servicemen, has been given a Monopoly pass.
Charges dropped in Guantanamo terror trial

WASHINGTON – The Pentagon's senior judge overseeing terror trials at Guantanamo Bay dropped charges Thursday against an al-Qaida suspect in the 2000 USS Cole bombing, upholding President Barack Obama's order to freeze military tribunals there.
The charges against suspected al-Qaida bomber Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri marked the last active Guantanamo war crimes case.
The legal move by Susan J. Crawford, the top legal authority for military trials at Guantanamo, brings all cases into compliance with Obama's Jan. 22 executive order to halt terrorist court proceedings at the U.S. Navy base in Cuba.
Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell said Crawford withdrew the charges against al-Nashiri. However, new charges can be brought again later, and al-Nashiri will remain in prison for the time being.
"It was her decision, but it reflects the fact that the president has issued an executive order which mandates that the military commissions be halted, pending the outcome of several reviews of our operations down at Guantanamo," Morrell said late Thursday night.
The ruling also gives the White House time to review the legal cases of all 245 terror suspects held there and decide whether they should be prosecuted in the U.S. or released to other nations.
Obama was to meet with families of the USS Cole and 9/11 victims at the White House on Friday afternoon and may announce the move.
Seventeen U.S. sailors died on Oct. 12, 2000, when al-Qaida suicide bombers steered an explosives-laden boat into the Cole, a guided-missile destroyer, as it sat in a Yemen port.
The Pentagon last summer charged al-Nashiri, a Saudi Arabian, with "organizing and directing" the bombing and planned to seek the death penalty in the case.
In his Jan. 22 order, Obama promised to shut down the Guantanamo prison within a year. The order also froze all Guantanamo detainee legal cases pending a three-month review as the Obama administration decides where — or whether — to prosecute the suspects who have been held there for years, most without charges.
Two military judges granted Obama's request for a delay in other cases.
But a third military judge, Army Col. James Pohl, defied Obama's order by scheduling a Feb. 9 arraignment for al-Nashiri at Guantanamo. That left the decision on whether to continue to Crawford, whose delay on announcing what she would do prompted widespread concern at the Pentagon that she would refuse to follow orders and allow the court process to continue.
Retired Navy Cmdr. Kirk S. Lippold, the commanding officer of the Cole when it was bombed in Yemen in October 2000, said he will be among family members of Cole and 9/11 victims who are meeting with Obama at the White House on Friday afternoon.
Groups representing victims' families were angered by Obama's order, charging they had waited too long already to see the alleged attackers brought to court.
"I was certainly disappointed with the decision to delay the military commissions process," Lippold, now a defense adviser to Military Families United, said in an interview Thursday night. "We have already waited eight years. Justice delayed is justice denied. We must allow the military commission process to go forward."
Crawford was appointed to her post in 2007 by then-President George W. Bush. She was in the news last month when she said interrogation methods used on one suspect at Guantanamo amounted to torture. The Bush administration had maintained it did not torture.
Last year, al-Nashiri said during a Guantanamo hearing that he confessed to helping plot the Cole bombing only because he was tortured by U.S. interrogators. The CIA has admitted he was among terrorist suspects subjected to waterboarding, which simulates drowning, in 2002 and 2003 while being interrogated in secret CIA prisons.

The Hypocrisy of "Morality"
Obama claims that America is taking the moral high ground in the fight against terrorism by disavowing torture and closing Guantanamo Bay. To date, there are no concrete plans with regard to where the suspects will be tried, freed, or shuttled off to. The recidivism rate for Al Quaeda's band of merry men once back in their homelands, is enough to warrant underground bunkers for all of us.
"This is me following through on not just a commitment I made during the campaign, but I think an understanding that dates back to our founding fathers, that we are willing to observe core standards of conduct, not just when it's easy but also when it's hard," the president, with Vice President Joe Biden at his side, said before he signed the order.
A common theme in the announcement and coverage regarding the closing of the Guantanamo Bay detention camp has been the desire for the United States to reclaim its "moral high ground." I must say, as a devout fan of history, I find this kind of puzzling. "Moral high ground"? Really? But then I thought more about it.
Firstly, I am a proud American . That said, I must dispute this "moral high ground" folly, for there is no validity to it. One does not need a Ph.D in history to know that this nation was founded in the 18th century by slave-owners, the same ones quoted by Obama, justifying the closing of Gitmo. Also, one does not need a Ph.D to know how the 19th century was often dominated by the forced expulsion of Native Americans from their homes, most famously the Trail of Tears. In the 20th century, Franklin D. Roosevelt, one of Barack Obama's heroes after whom he has modeled his economic plan, ordered the SS St. Louis carrying Jewish refugees from Germany, to be shipped back to Europe where many would later perish in the Holocaust. In 1945, the United States directly targeted civilian populations in the firebombings of Japan, killing more in those raids than the combined casualties of the atomic bombs. And the decision to use the atomic bombs? Well, maybe another time. Why mention these tragedies? Because every instance cited above led to the direct mistreatment, persecution, and killing of unarmed civilians during a time, apparently, when America held to its "moral high ground", before the Bush administration supposedly ruined our reputation.
Now, am I suggesting that egregious acts of the past are a ringing endorsement for similar actions today? Of course not. The fact is, Gitmo is not a place where innocent, unarmed civilians are being massacred. Quite the contrary. 779 prisoners have been held in Guantanamo, roughly 240 remain. The only deaths reported have been a few cases of suicide and one due to cancer. It is not as if these men were kidnapped while walking the streets of Dearborn, Michigan and then murdered. They were all captured on the battlefields or in Pakistani safehouses and remain alive.
And let's be realistic, does anyone seriously think that a terrorist group determined to kill Americans will think twice because we closed a detention center? Does anyone believe that a terrorist group whose sole mission is to kidnap and harm Americans will have a change of ideology because the US engaged in random acts of kindness? How many people were the Clinton administration torturing when Al Qaeda began plotting and funding 9/11? The argument that our "torture" endangers Americans is another delusion. Bottom line- those who are indoctrinated to hate Americans, will always do so. We cannot risk our national security during perilous times or any time for that matter.
Finally, as I have stated, while I formerly found this morality a bit puzzling and nonsensical, there is clarity now. From a belief in an unsubstantiated "moral high ground" used to close a legitimate military facility that could lead the likes of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed to be tried in front of an OJ Simpson jury, right up to the false hope placed in a man of no noteworthy accomplishments, Barack Obama, to execute such an order. It is quite obvious that delusion, both national and global, is the name of the game. People want to believe in the inherent force of good trumping evil but in this case, false hope and believing in something that is but a mere fantasy, can have very real consequences. A little over a year ago, former President Bill Clinton described the BO charade as the "biggest fairy tale I've ever seen." He was correct, and now, the fairy tale is unfolding before our eyes with the real possibility that it will end in a nightmarish cloud of regret.

My President Is Now The Secretary of State
While we sit and recoil at the fraud perpetrated by the DNC, the Resident Select and his band of merry men/women, the rightful winner of the Democratic Primary is forging ahead with good humor, commitment, and the know-how to get our country back on track regarding foreign policy. Personally, I had the privilege of having a few moments to speak with Secty of State Clinton, just a couple of weeks ago. Her ebullience and determination were evident in her persona; nary a trace of bitterness which I dare say would plague almost anyone who has been as betrayed and maligned as she.
She is my President. Not "that one." The voters spoke and we were denied. Corruption won instead.
Today, my President was sworn in as Secty of State, to serve our needs in very perilous times. I sleep well at night knowing that Hillary Clinton is our watchdog.

Diversion Foundeth Me
So this is what kept me away from blogging the last few days. I.Am.A.Tennis.Fan.
It felt good to put the horrors of O on the back burner for a bit.
Nadal, I love you because I love you, but I love you even more for giving me a great diversion during these times of disgust.
I look forward to sharing the brilliance of my friend here shortly, who has graciously agreed to blog a bit. Not a formal PUMA, a Libertarian with a grounded perspective based on historical facts. You will undoubtedly enjoy his take.
